Guy Standing, will present and lead a discussion on his new book analyzing the implications of the rise of the Precariat.
The Precariat is a new class, comprising the growing number of people facing lives of insecurity, doing work without past or future. Their lack of belonging and identity means inadequate access to social and economic rights. Why is this new class growing, what political dangers does it represent and how might these be addressed?
Guy Standing is Professor of Economic Security at the University of Bath. He was formerly Director of the Socio-Economic Security Program of the International Labour Organisation. He is co-president of the Basic Income Earth Network. His recent books include ‘Work after Globalisation: Building Occupational Citizenship’ (2009) and ‘Beyond the New Paternalism: Basic Security as Equality’ (2002).
